From the Darkness of My Pen © by Bruce (Bear) Rodgers 2014
From the darkness of my pen
I write the words of how I feel
Thoughts that spill out rapidly
Once safe inside my mind
Now written down for all to see
Set sail on lines of blue
I bare my soul out willingly
No feeling goes unshared
Each day with pen in hand
I look into my shattered heart
And strike the thoughts you see
The very things that shaped my life
From the darkness of my pen
Now exposed on sheets of white
From the darkness of my pen
I write the words of how I feel
So easy is this task at hand
A heart so yearning to be heard
Freedom in each solid phrase
That something deep inside is stirred
Nothing lost in each filtered word
Our deepest fears and life's regrets
So common is this thread we share
The fears of loss and secret loves
That bring such pain and tears to bear
The very things that shaped our life
From the darkness of each pen
So exposed on sheets of white
From the darkness of my pen
I write the words of how I feel
On sheets of paper, silent, empty
Bright white with lines of blue
I will only scratch the surface
Of the words I want to say
That grinds the mind each day
In all the thousands of words I cast
Until Glory comes of age
I trust my legacy is intact
From the darkness of my pen
Now exposed on sheets of white
The one remembered most will be
My silence on life's final page
